Demolition Update #24 - MTS Centre

MTS Centre Press Release

Despite bitterly cold temperatures, work started this week on the early preparation for the foundation of the future MTS Centre. Subterranean Limited of Winnipeg installed soldier piles and shoring at the Donald Street and Graham Avenue corner of the project to ensure that there is no damage to the surrounding city streets during construction.

The removal of mixed waste, metal, concrete and wood from the demolition of the former Eaton’s store continues. A total of more than 1,000 truckloads each carrying fifteen tons of material have been transported for recycling or disposal in landfill.

The demolition contractor will clear the entire area down to the concrete floor of the former Eaton’s basement. At that time a further six feet of excavation will take place to prepare the site for the pouring of the new event floor later this spring.

The Shaw Cable camera (Channel 11) looks south at the Portage Avenue view of the project while the Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation has positioned a web cam to document the activity from the Graham Street perspective-looking north
