Gusty winds this week again slowed down the demolition of the 8th floor cornice and walls at the Portage Avenue building face. However work continued in the interior gutting of the Annex Building, in preparation for the total demolition.
As scheduled, the removal of the walkway bridge across Donald Street from the Eaton’s store to the Somerset Building was completed. Power to the City Place Powerhouse and Parkade will be switched over to the new transformer allowing demolition of the Powerhouse electrical room to commence next week.
In the next week, the demolition equipment will continue working on the eighth floor and will be lowered by crane, down to the seventh floor and the process of removing the walls around the building at that height will commence. Weather permitting, the removal of the walls above the seventh floor should take one week to complete.
True North continues to post a series of still photographs of the demolition activity to its website (www.truenorthproject.mb.ca).
