Construction Update #15 - MTS Centre

MTS Centre Press Release

The early but not unexpected arrival of winter temperatures has not impeded construction progress at the MTS Centre worksite. Advance planning for the arrival of snow and freezing cold has enabled the work schedule for the project to proceed as intended.

Concrete work continues with forming and pouring of the upper concourse floor. As sections of the concrete floor set in place, concrete columns and seating rakers are then poured on top bringing the upper concourse closer to completion every day and the entire building closer to its eventual final roofline height. The forming for the first section of the concrete ring beam, which will provide the foundation for the gigantic steel trusses to support the roof, began this week.

The event level, twenty feet below grade, will be the back of house technical and service nerve centre of the facility. It will also be the location of home team and visitors locker rooms, star performer dressing rooms commissaries and kitchens. These spaces circle what will become the event and ice floor in the centre of the complex. This lower event level is now completely closed in with tarps and is being heated to provide a barrier against the elements for a number of trades who are building out a variety of the rooms and installing electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems.

There are now more than 215 trades people and construction workers on site on a daily basis. Many of the crews are working a six-day week to keep the project on its tight schedule.
